Welcome to the Downtown Elementary Magnet Academey's Resource Coordinator's Web Page.  I am in my 17th year with the MCSD as a Resource Coordinator and my 13th year as a Title I Family Services Coordinator.

The goal of the Family Services Coordinator is to improve student's academic achievement by increasing the interest and involvement of parents through the implementation of activities that strengthen the home-school connection.

Major responsiblities includes:
1. Design and conduct parent education workshop in collaboration with teachers and parents to enhance parent interactions with their child(ren) by using/demonstrating effective techniques and materials to stimulate cognitive, physical, social and language development.

2. Act as a liasion between teachers and parents.

3. Work in cooperation with the administration and counselor office regarding attendance matters.

4. Maintain parent program records and documents.

5. Prepare and supervise mailing of materials sent home to parents.

6. Maintain confidentiality of information about parents and students.

7. Provide parents with the skills and information required to gain access to health care providers, social services, education agencies, and other support systems available in the community to assist parents and their child(ren).

Responsibilities for Family Servies Coordinator includes:
1. Create a list of activities in which parents and community stakeholders can participate as volunteers.

2. Collaborate with school staff to establish a process that facilittates meaningful two-way communication between the school, parents, and community members designed to emphasize ways to support student achievement, provide positive feedback and to address concerns related to student achievement.

3. Maintain a comprehensive file of communications with families.

4. Provide educational opportunitie for building parent competency and capacity to meet identified needs which may include workshops on parenting styles and practices, expectations for student behavior, academic performance, and Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) tied to the specific aga and development needs of the students.

5. Organize parenting resources in a space within school provided for parenting.

6.Assist the schoool team in creating a standards-based newsletter or other publication that focuses on student work and progress toward meeting the GPS.

7. Establish and maintain on-going, coooperative partnerships with families and the community in order to support student learning and well being.

8. Work with school leaders in providing opportunities for parents to take more active roles in supporting the school improvement planning process.

9. Maintain an updated list of services and partnerships available to parents throught the school and collaborate with families to help access community resources/services to strengthen school and families and to remove barriers to student learning.

10. Provide opportunities for parents to participate with their children in a variety of reading, writing, mathematics, and technology related educational activities designed to enrich student learning.

11. Complete and submit all Title I Parenting documentation by designated deadlines.

12. Update the Parent Involvement Policy and Home-School Compact at the beinning of each year and submit it to Title I.
